Wood. - This is the most traditional material in the manufacture of kitchens. Their beauty, thermal properties and endurance makes wood favorite in the manufacture of furniture. Nevertheless his high cost and maintenance has caused over the years the search for synthetic substitutes like melamine and PVC. There is a wide variety of woods, finishes, prices and availability. Most woods used in Mexico come from the U.S.A. and Canada. Some of the most popular woods for furniture are: Oak, Maple and Beech. Mahogany, Walnut, Cherry and Pine are also suitable woods. What is important is to get hard woods, dried sealed and treated against insects and fungi. Every time is more and more common the use of wood fiber and plywood boards with wood veneers for lowering the costs and getting composed materials less prone to deformations and humidity absorption than solid wood. Pine as well as some other domestic cheap woods are not a good choice because of their high humidity and resins content that might cause distortions and cracks soon after.
